What Is an Infinite Position Lift Chair?
An infinite position lift chair has two independent motors — one for the back and one for the footrest. This means you can raise your feet without reclining, recline your back without raising your feet, or move both to any angle you choose. Unlike a 3-position chair where back and footrest move together, infinite position gives you complete control over every angle of your body position.
These chairs recline fully flat — and many go further into zero gravity or Trendelenburg positioning where the feet rise above the heart. Every chair in this collection is an FDA Class II Medical Device with a powered lift mechanism to assist you safely from seated to standing.
Why Choose Infinite Position?
Independent Back and Footrest Control
The defining feature. Raise your legs to reduce swelling while staying upright to watch TV. Recline your back without raising the footrest if you need lumbar relief while keeping your feet down. This flexibility is not possible on any 3-position chair.
True Flat Recline for Sleeping
Infinite position chairs recline fully parallel to the floor — making them suitable for sleeping. For users with COPD, acid reflux, heart conditions, or post-surgical recovery who cannot sleep flat in a bed, an infinite position chair can become their primary sleep surface.
Zero Gravity Capable
Most infinite position chairs in this collection can achieve zero gravity positioning — feet at or above heart level, spine decompressed, weight evenly distributed. Some also offer Trendelenburg (feet above the head) for maximum venous return.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between infinite position and zero gravity?
Infinite position means the back and footrest adjust independently to any angle. Zero gravity is a specific position within the infinite position range — feet at or above heart level with spine decompressed. All zero gravity chairs are infinite position chairs, but not all infinite position chairs are marketed specifically as zero gravity.
Can I actually sleep in an infinite position chair?
Yes — infinite position chairs recline fully flat, making them suitable for sleeping. Many users with medical conditions including COPD, acid reflux, and heart conditions sleep in their chair nightly. For true lay-flat sleeping, also consider the Perfect Sleep Chair which is specifically designed for sleeping.
What is Twilight Technology?
Golden's Twilight Technology adds a third motor that tilts the entire chair base — including armrests — backward up to 30 degrees. Combined with independent back and footrest control, this creates a deeper cradle position beyond standard zero gravity. Available on the PR-515, PR-525, PR-527, and PR-449.
Is infinite position worth the extra cost over 3-position?
If you need to sleep in the chair, elevate legs for circulation, or want zero gravity positioning — yes, absolutely. If you primarily use a lift chair for TV watching and standing assistance and don't have those therapeutic needs, a 3-position chair delivers excellent value.
