Why Standard Lift Chairs Can't Achieve True Zero Gravity
Standard lift chairs — including many marketed as "infinite position" — move the backrest and footrest independently. The seat itself stays relatively fixed. Even when the footrest is elevated and the back is reclined, the user's weight is still concentrated primarily on the seat surface. This is not zero gravity.
What Twilight Does
Twilight Tilt uses a three-motor cradle mechanism that tilts the entire seat platform as a unit. As the cradle tilts, the user's legs rise above the heart level — genuinely redistributing body weight across the full back surface rather than concentrating it at the seat. The result is a true weight-neutral sensation where no single body region bears disproportionate gravitational load. Golden is the only lift chair manufacturer to offer this technology.
The Four Twilight Positions
TV Position — Slight recline with footrest elevated for comfortable viewing. Zero Gravity — Legs rise above heart level; weight distributed evenly; spinal compression minimized; sensation of near-weightlessness. Trendelenburg — Cradle tilts further until feet are above head level; used therapeutically for venous return from lower limbs, edema, and lower back decompression. Rejuvenate — Golden's patented pressure-relief position that shifts the load from the seat surface to the back surface, allowing the ischial (seat) tissue to rest — particularly important for users at pressure injury risk or those who sit for extended periods.

The PR-519 adds the open arm command center (wireless charger, drink holder, removable table, LED reading light, dual USB Type A & C ports), increases weight capacity from 375 lbs to 400 lbs, and updates the hand control with the Lights Out auto-dim feature. The 5-zone Twilight positioning system, Cloud body style, bucket seat, and biscuit back are carried forward from the PR-515.
Standard MaxiComfort (used on chairs like the PR-750 EZ Sleeper Slim or PR-766 Relaxer) independently adjusts the footrest, backrest, headrest, and lumbar — but the seat itself remains relatively fixed. Twilight adds a third motor that tilts the entire seat cradle, elevating the legs above the heart for true zero gravity and enabling Trendelenburg and the Rejuvenate position. If zero gravity and Trendelenburg positioning are clinically or personally important, Twilight is required — standard MaxiComfort cannot achieve them.
The Rejuvenate position is Golden's patented pressure-redistribution feature. It shifts the user's weight off the seat surface onto the back, giving the seat tissue (ischial tuberosities and surrounding soft tissue) periodic relief from continuous pressure. This is clinically meaningful for users who sit for extended periods and are at risk of pressure injuries or who experience discomfort from prolonged seated pressure concentration. The Rejuvenate position cannot be replicated on standard recliners — it requires the Twilight cradle-tilt mechanism to shift the loading axis.
Standard lift chairs tilt the seat forward as they raise the user — the front of the seat rises to angle the user toward a standing position. The Straight Lift option changes this: the chair lifts straight up vertically rather than tilting. This is designed for caregiver-assisted transfers, specifically for side transfers where the user is moved laterally rather than standing up from the front. It is also appropriate for users whose balance challenges make the forward tilt difficult or unsafe. Golden is one of the only manufacturers to offer this.
