The Catalyst 5 is the top model from Ki Mobility in their folding frame wheelchair range. Made from ultra-light, high-strength 7000 series aluminum, the Catalyst 5 offers a smoother and more comfortable ride thanks to its vibration-dampening properties. This aluminum allows the wheelchair to have a transport weight of just 12.8 lbs. (including the frame, 5” poly casters, and upholstery) and a standard weight of only 20.8 lbs., all while supporting a weight capacity of up to 300 lbs. Ki Mobility’s specially designed cross brace gives the Catalyst 5 the feel of a rigid frame wheelchair combined with the convenience of a folding design, ensuring long-lasting durability. The Catalyst line features a Dual Interlocking Cross Brace.

This innovative design locks the frame together, reducing unwanted movement and maximizing the energy transfer with each push, making your effort as efficient as possible. The “Between-The-Rails” Seat Design positions the seat frame tubing side-by-side instead of stacking them, allowing the user’s weight to be distributed to the side frames rather than resting on the cross brace. This eliminates the need for heavy cross braces that add extra weight to wheelchairs from other manufacturers. The way the Catalyst 5 folds and unfolds is also distinctive. It features a Power X-Hinge, an extending link that connects the frame to the cross brace, which expands and contracts as the frame opens or closes. Ki Mobility has patented this unique Power X-Hinge. Additionally, it enhances the structural integrity of the frame, providing strength and rigidity without relying on the seat upholstery. In contrast, other manufacturers depend on the upholstery to create tension for a solid feel, which can lead to sagging over time and a loose frame.
